Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn (Splatsin Teaching Centre) Society

We have fully qualified staff that is recognized by the Licensing Branch in Victoria as Infant Toddler Educators, Early Childhood Educators, and Assistants. We employ 12 full-time employees, 7 part-time employees, and approximately 10 contractors. A majority of our staff are local and from the Splatsin/Enderby area. Everyone who works in our centre goes through extensive job interviews and criminal record checks. We are very proud of our volunteers and the countless hours committed to assist our centre in all our activities. We are also very grateful of the support we receive from the Salmon Arm Rotary Club. This past year they have assisted us with hardware for our media departmentand computer technical support giving us a more efficient workflow in recording our language.

  • Video surveillance system in every program room of our centre

  • All doors lock to prevent unauthorized access to our centre

Ongoing Support & Continued Education

In the past year, we have provided the Infant Toddler Training for 4 staff members. We also provided the practicum placement supervisor for these ITE students in our centre. We provide First Aid and Food Safe training for our staff as needed. All staff has sponsored training opportunities through the BC First Nation Head Start Program and Service Canada. In 2007-2008, our centre hosted an Early Childhood Educator Program in conjunction with Vancouver City College/Native Education Centre. We had 16 graduates. Four students are now employed with our centre. In 1998, our centre hosted a Family Child Care Assistant Training Program in conjunction with Okanagan College. Two of these students worked for our centre and then went on to become ECE teachers. We also have a partnership with the local University of British Columbia / Okanagan College where Human Service Workers do a practicum yearly in our centre.
